David (in orange) with Untethered cast and crew. 2023.

Since the mid-2000s I’ve worked as an independent creative and producer, focusing on web content and animation. I spent those early years supporting myself with a day job in retail or administration, until 2016 I secured my first full time job as an animator in Canada. My interests grew beyond animation as a career, so I continued independent production and studies. Over the next six years I produced video projects, performed in theatre, and developed as a writer. After completing an associates certificate with distinction, my interests converged on live action editorial where I continue to work today.

My diverse background informs my approach to storytelling and collaboration in a few ways. Practically, I tend to find common language easily because I have a wide range of experience. At the same time, I understand the ways different media shape their messages. As a viewer and creative I treat writing, visuals, and sound design collectively because I’m fascinated by the way those disciplines interact, affect attention, and continue to shape popular culture.

I occasionally write about media and technology on my blog. Beyond that, here are some works that have stuck with me over the years.

4 Films: Only Yesterday, Yi-Yi, Fanny and Alexander, In The Mood for Love
4 Anime: Mob Psycho 100, FLCL, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
4 Albums: Something to Give Each Other – Troye Sivan, Diana – Diana Ross, Ties – Felivand, GNX – Kendrick Lamar
4 Comics: Saga, Vattu, Goodnight Punpun, Slam Dunk!

Currently I work as an assistant editor, am producing an album, and am editing a feature-length documentary. I live in so-called Vancouver, BC with my dog, June.
